Short version: SaleSpot collects only what it needs to work. We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or do anything creepy with it. Your location is used only to find nearby sales — it is never stored on our servers without your permission.

SaleSpot ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application that helps users discover garage sales, estate sales, farmers markets, and pop-up events in their area. We are the data controller for information collected through the SaleSpot app and website.

2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Password (stored as an encrypted hash — we never see your actual password)
- Display name (optional)
Location Information
SaleSpot's core functionality requires knowing your general area. We handle location data as follows:
- In-app location: Your device's GPS coordinates are used in real-time to find nearby sales. This data is processed on-device and is not transmitted to our servers during browsing.
- Saved location preferences: If you save a home radius or city preference in your profile, we store that city/region (not precise GPS) on our servers so we can send you relevant push notifications.
- We never sell, share, or transmit your precise GPS coordinates to third parties.
Usage Information
We may collect anonymous analytics about how you use the app (screens viewed, features used, crash logs) to improve the product. This data is aggregated and cannot identify you individually.
Push Notification Tokens
If you enable push notifications, we store a device token to send you alerts you've requested. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or the app's profile screen.
Payment Information
SaleSpot Pro subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and RevenueCat. We never see, store, or have access to your credit card number, billing address, or payment details. For billing questions, contact Apple or Google directly.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the service: Finding sales near you, sending alerts, managing your saved items and routes
- To send notifications: Alert you when new sales matching your preferences are posted (only if you opt in)
- To manage your subscription: Verify Pro status so you can access premium features
- To improve SaleSpot: Understand which features are used most, fix bugs, and make the app better
- To communicate with you: Respond to support requests, send important service updates
We do not use your information to:
- Sell or rent data to third parties
- Target you with third-party advertising
- Build advertising profiles
- Share your data with data brokers
4. How We Share Your Information
We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We use Supabase (database hosting) and RevenueCat (subscription management) to operate the app. These companies process data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
- Business transfer: If SaleSpot is acquired or merged, your data would transfer to the new owner under the same privacy protections.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Anonymous, aggregated analytics data (no personal info) may be retained indefinitely to understand usage trends.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request we correct inaccurate information
- Deletion: Request we delete your account and personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format
- Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails or disable push notifications at any time

7. Children's Privacy
SaleSpot is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted storage for passwords (bcrypt hashing)
- Row-level security on our database (your data is only accessible to you)
- Regular security reviews
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, change your password immediately and contact us.
9. Third-Party Services
SaleSpot integrates with or links to third-party services. Their own privacy policies govern their data practices:

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
Continued use of SaleSpot after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
